We make invisible stories—visible.

At Invisible Generals Productions, we tell the untold. Inspired by the legacy of America’s first Black generals, our work unearths powerful, overlooked stories and brings them to life through film, television, audio, and live experiences. From hidden chapters in history to unsung cultural pioneers, we champion narratives that challenge, inspire, and expand what we know about the world—and each other.

About

Invisible Generals Productions is a mission-driven media company dedicated to uncovering stories that history forgot or chose not to remember. Founded by Doug Melville—author, speaker, and cultural historian—our projects celebrate resilience, identity, and the transformational power of storytelling.

Our roots began with Invisible Generals, a critically acclaimed book chronicling the true story of America’s first two Black generals—a father and son—whose contributions were left out of mainstream history. That spirit of revelation and restoration drives everything we do.

We publish books, and develop original scripted and unscripted content, including videos, films, serials, podcasts, and live productions, working in partnership with major publishers, networks and cultural institutions. Our lens is inclusive, our perspective unapologetic, and our goal simple: to make invisible stories—visible.

Why Us:

Because stories shape legacies. And too many legacies have been erased.

Invisible Generals Productions stands at the intersection of truth, justice, and creativity. In a media landscape saturated with repetition, we offer what’s missing—stories of innovation, courage, and cultural impact told through voices historically left out of the frame.

We bring credibility, research depth, creative vision, and a proven ability to move hearts and minds. Our work is built to last, inspire, and shift the narrative.

If you’re looking to create work that changes the conversation, we’re your partner.

Leadership Philosophy: Doug Melville, CEO

Doug Melville leads Invisible Generals Productions with the belief that leadership is not about titles—it’s about legacy. As a cultural strategist, author, and founder, Doug has spent his career championing equity, truth, and inclusion across industries. His philosophy is grounded in three principles:

  • Visibility is Power: What we see shapes what we believe. Doug is committed to elevating stories that empower and educate across generations.
  • History is Living: The past isn’t behind us—it lives with us. Doug leads with the conviction that media can reframe the present by correcting the past.
  • Legacy Over Limelight: Impact matters more than attention. Doug’s focus is on building projects that create lasting change—not just headlines.

As CEO, Doug ensures every project aligns with the company’s core mission: to reveal what has been hidden, honor those who’ve been forgotten, and build a more inclusive cultural record—one story at a time.
